it's a game based on the battlestar galactica series, specifically on the re-imagining that is currently airing on the sci-fi channel. it's based around original characters on earth dealing with their own cylon problem. the game will have some plot, but mostly it's going to focus on character interaction, especially between the resistance members and the humans working with the cylons. mostly because were inspired by spoiler pictures of earth sets for the upcoming bsg series. so we thought it would be fun to explore just what has been happening on earth. oddly enough, there's some similarities with the colonials, but a lot of differences too. for one, the humans on earth are dealing with the old school cylon models, namely the so-called bullet heads. the ones that look like robots, not like humans. well, aside from the thirteenth tribe from kobol landing here about four thousand years ago, nothing much is different from regular, normal human history. until the year 2030 that is, when the cylons arrived on earth for the first time. the complete timeline of that can be found here, and a history of the thirteenth colony can be found here. for the purposes of this game, we're assuming that the cylons knew about the myths about earth because, hey, they were made by man, you know? they'd know the religion. nope! all the people on earth know is that they're fighting giant killer robots from outer space that call themselves "cylons". they know nothing about the battlestar, nothing about the other colonies. as far as most humans are concerned, they are ( mostly ) alone in this universe. we'll be introducing plot points from the show as time goes on, but those will be explained as we go along. obviously, since this game is based on original characters, all characters from battlestar galactica are banned. because of that, all actors who are on the shows are also banned from being used as pbs. also, since they just really wouldn't fit into this world, all gods girls/suicide girls/myspace scene kids/originals/paris hilton/britney spears are banned from usage as pbs as well. only if you really, really want to play one of the metal ones. no, really. there are no skinjobs on earth. not yet. that's a plot point, and all skinjobs will be npc'd by the mods. these are not your bsg, human-friendly models either. these are the bad guys. genocide is what they do. the resistance are groups of humans from all over the world that have banded together to fight the cylons. they're very much guerrilla fighters, and they have bases everywhere, usually in the countryside away from the big cities. since it is possible to communicate through the journals as well as get transport to any part of the world, people can play characters who live anywhere on the globe. keep in mind that large cities are over-run with cylons, so characters in cities will have to deal with that, almost constantly. callsigns are basically codenames for humanity. they are also what people are referred to on the internet. why? because using your real name on the internet isn't the best idea when killer robots can hack the signal and figure out where you live. callsigns keep people from being able to rat each other out, too. which isn't to say that that doesn't sometimes happen. sure! the more the merrier. these are basically the people in token positions of power, like the president of the united states, who is the most vocal cylon supporter. these are also the only humans who live, freely, in the cities. like most good post-apocalyptic futures, there's faster-than-planes transport, lightspeed transportation, and giant robots. keep in mind, only fighter jets and other military vehicles shoot lasers. all guns still shoot bullets. so, yes, you can run out of ammo. the world's computer, electronic, and television networks still work. which means there's functioning computers, electricity, and more all around the world. of course, most of those are controlled by the robots, and hacking into a signal makes it easy to track you. except for wireless internet, of course. yep! there's a secure network of journals set up by the resistance to keep in contact with each other. it started out as something to use to better plan out raids and attacks, and it's morphed into an actual, secure, social network. three characters, right now. if you can handle three and remain active, you can have a fourth, and so on. if you can't remain active with your base three, you will not be allowed more. sorry. we need to see something out of you once every three weeks. this means either a thread, a log, a narrative, a journal entry, or even just commenting in people's journals. games don't live if the players aren't active. if you just intend to join and sit on a pb? please go elsewhere. the rest of us are here to play. hiatuses happen. just let us know so that your characters aren't removed by accident. this game is rated m for mature. that means there will be sex, violence, strong language. this includes slash and het. if you can't handle mature subject matter, then this probably isn't the game for you. all threads, logs, and narratives should contain the following label: who when where what warnings ( only necessary if the post contains something like sex, violence, etc. ) with the rest of the post under a cut-tag. it's a storyline community. since most of these characters have been working and living together for years, it's logical to assume that there's backstory that should be plotted out beforehand. this is the place to do that! comment here or pm the |
